What is baby massage?
Baby massage is based on nurturing touch. By performing different massage strokes, each session focuses on strengthening bonds through skin to skin, positive touch and physical contact which will help stimulate baby’s internal systems, provide relief and encourage neurological development.
What can I expect during a baby massage session?
Each session will involve discussing the benefits of the particular strokes we will be practicing, followed by practical demonstration on a doll. You will have the opportunity to practice on your baby or watch and practice later if baby does not want to participate.
I encourage you to perform the routine with baby in between sessions, to help them feel comfortable with massage.
Is there an age limit for babies?
Babies are welcome to join massage classes from birth up to pre-crawling. If there are any relevant health concerns and/or medical treatments in progress, please inform me prior to securing your booking with Baby Bloom.
What is included in the cost of the online course?
Included in the cost of the course bundle, you will be provided with a 50ml bottle of massage oil and a PDF booklet of the weekly routines – which will encourage practice in between sessions. Providing that you and your baby complete the course, you will receive a certificate in the final week.
What routines are included if I choose the single session?
The single sessions can be used as taster lessons if you are unsure whether you want to undertake the five-week course, or if you want to focus on specific area/s. You can choose one of the following routines: legs, tummy, chest/arms/hands, head and face, back, teething/colic.
How far will you travel for face to face bookings?
I am happy to travel to all bookings within the Greater London area.
What oil/s can I use for baby massage?
The most suitable oils for baby massage are cold-pressed, non-scented vegetable oils. This is because babies have a very sensitive sense of smell therefore we advise maintaining the familiarity within the home by not introducing scents that could cause over-stimulation when recognised as “unfamiliar”. The oil provided by Baby Bloom is organic Sunflower oil.
What is the ideal environment for baby massage?
These are the best tips for creating a calm atmosphere for baby massage to take place in:
- Maintain adequate room temperature – approximately 24 degrees will prevent baby from being exposed to cold air.
- Dim or turn off bright lighting – some babies dislike being placed under direct light.
- Ensure phones are on silent – This will prevent distractions and create a calmer environment.
What if my baby becomes upset during the session/s?
During the massage sessions, babies may become irritable, become hungry or want comforting. It is important that you respond to their needs and pause the routine. Do not worry about missing strokes; the weekly handout will allow you to practice in your own time.
